Choose your edition
Three ways to have it.
The digital edition is free for every household. The print edition and the field bundle pay for the printing, the paper, and the next revision.
What is inside
Seven parts, written in the order a real life needs them.
Part I — Home and family
Phones, accounts, money, kids and teens, elders, the family router, the smart home, scams and voice calls that sound like someone you love, school and social, and what to do when a child says “I clicked it”.
Part II — Business
Founders and small organisations. Accounts and administrators, devices, vendors, invoice fraud and wire diversion, backups that actually restore, the app-integrity protocol written plainly, and the one-platform principle.
Part III — Infrastructure
Why water plants, clinics, schools, election offices and small utilities get hit. What critical infrastructure means for a normal citizen, and what community resilience actually looks like.
Part IV — When it goes wrong
The seven printable incident cards. First 15 minutes, ransomware, account takeover, an app that changed, outage and continuity, lost or stolen device, child safety event.
Part V — Go Dark
The air-gapped home kit, how to disconnect safely, working from the printed binder and the offline Sentry guide, and the Emergency Lifeline design concept.
Parts VI and VII — The Words and the Index
A tiered glossary in plain English first and precise language second, and a searchable term index with page pointers.
Appendix — Deep Water
The preserved technical content for the professional reader: control-plane requirements, reference architecture, evidence labels, roadmap and tiers.
Front matter
How to use this book, the ladder from Aware to Armored to Uncrackable, and “Ten Minutes That Matter Most”.
Honest answers
Questions people actually ask.
Why is the digital edition free?
Because the households most likely to be hurt by a scam are the least likely to spend money on a book about scams. The print edition and the bundle fund the work.
Is this only for the United States?
The principles are universal. The reporting routes, emergency numbers and legal notes are written for a United States reader. Where a rule is jurisdictional, the book says so instead of pretending it is not.
Do I need to be technical?
No. Every technical word gets a plain-English line the first time it appears, and the heavy material is kept in the back for people who want it.
Will this make me unhackable?
No, and any book that says otherwise is selling you something. Nothing is hack-proof. Resilience is the measurable goal: fewer incidents, smaller incidents, and faster recovery.
